I Thessalonians 5:17 Pray constantly.
Today is the 58th observance of the National Day of Prayer. Prayer meetings are being held all over the nation. I appreciate those who mobilized this movement, and have continued to promote it in order to magnify the importance of prayer.
The Scripture admonishes us to pray constantly, or pray without ceasing. The phrase "our prayers go out to you" is often heard in the secular media. I have never really understood what that means. I think it just sounds kind, so people say it, and it makes them seem spiritual.
I can tell you who my prayers go out to. My prayers go out to God. The only reason He receives and answers them is because I approach Him in the name of Jesus, who is my righteousness.
Hebrews 4:14-16 Therefore since we have a great high priest who has passed through the heavens- Jesus the Son of God- let us hold fast to the confession. For we do not have a high priest who is unable to sympathize with our weaknesses, but One who has been tested in every way as we are, yet without sin. Therefore, let us approach the throne of grace with boldness, so that we may receive mercy and find grace to help us at the proper time.
It is a great privilege to come before the throne of God. He is Creator, Redeemer, and Sustainer of all the universe, and He hears me, and answers according to His perfect will.
There has been a bit of a dust-up the past couple of days because President Obama refused to publicly participate in the National Day of Prayer. Who can really be surprised at this? This is the man who has done all he can to set back the pro-life movement in this country. This is the man who answered the question, when does life begin, by saying "that's above my pay grade." This is the man who has surrounded himself with the most liberal administration that has ever existed. So I am not surprised at all.
However, I will be obedient to Scripture- I Timothy 2:1-4 I urge that petitions, prayers, intercessions, and thanksgivings be made for everyone, for kings and all those who are in authority, so that we may lead a tranquil and quiet life in all godliness and dignity. This is good, and it pleases God our Savior, who wants everyone to be saved and to come to the knowledge of the truth. So I pray that those in authority over us would be saved and come to the knowledge of the truth.
I hope you pray constantly in your walk with God. If you don't, now is a good time to start.
