Remembering 9/11/01

America paused to reflect on 9/11/01 today. It was a day that changed our history in many ways. I was living in North Carolina at the time and I remember the phone call I received from a church member telling me to turn on a television to see what was going on.

Several thousand people died that day when commercial airliners were flown into the World Trade Center towers, the Pentagon, and Flight 93 over Pennsylvania. It was a sad and shocking day. Like many other visitors to New York City, I had the opportunity to go to the top of the World Trade Center just a few years before. I could not believe what I was seeing as I watched the news reports.

So, we pause as a nation to remember, and to reflect. I salute the first responders and the people who willingly put themselves in danger to help others. I salute the men and women in uniform who have boldly fought the war on terror in the ensuing years to keep us safe.

Life can turn quickly, and all of us must be prepared to meet our Creator at any given moment. We do not know the day or the hour our time will come. Jesus Christ is our hope.
