Jesus, Our Victory

Scripture Focus- Romans 7:13-25

Listen to Sermon Here

At issue is what happens between our justification (when we are saved) and glorification (when the good work is completed in us). We are engaged in a spiritual battle for our holiness and growth in Christlikeness.

Paul writes-
present tense (I am), calls the Law spiritual and good (with a desire to live righteously), in the context of a discussion on sanctification. He is writing from the perspective of a maturing Christian, engaged in the battle against sin.

- Christians are still capable of sinning.

Sold into sin's power v14, I do what I hate v15, I do what I do not want to do v16, nothing good lives in my flesh v18, sin lives in me v20, evil is with me v21

- Christians hate sin.

v15 I do what I hate.

Psalm 97:10 You who love the Lord, hate evil!

Get a vision of God's holiness, truth and righteousness.

- Christians want to live righteously.

v18 There is no ability to do it.

Key- vv24-25 What a wretched man I am! Who will rescue me from this body of death? I thank God through Jesus Christ our Lord!

The victory has been won for us by the crucified, buried and risen Lord Jesus!

There is a battle and we can live the Spirit filled life and experience the victory God intends for us.

Are you living the victorious life in Christ?
