Statue Depicting Elijah on the Top of Mt Carmel
Sites visited today-
Tel Megiddo- A crossroads of the ancient world, archaeologists have identified twenty different layers of cities here. From the peak of the city to the west one can see Mt. Carmel, the low lying hills of Nazareth, and Mt Tabor (the likely site of the Transfiguration of Jesus). This area will again become the focal point of the future. This is in the Jezreel Valley where the Battle of Armageddon will take place (Revelation 16:16).
Mt. Carmel- The place of the showdown between the prophets of Baal and Elijah the Prophet of God. God showed Himself faithful, consuming the sacrifice of Elijah by fire and Elijah had the false prophets killed (I Kings 18).
Caesarea By the Sea- The Roman Capital of the region. There is a great theater there. It is the place of the death of Herod Agrippa I recorded in Acts 12 when God killed him for claiming glory for himself. Pontius Pilate also lived there. He was in Jerusalem at the time of Jesus' arrest because of the Passover.
Our day ended with a drive down to the Negev and an overnight at the Dead Sea, the lowest point on earth.
